Fifteen Arrested In Marijuana Smuggling Operation

Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents arrested 15 people in connection with a marijuana smuggling operation worth at least $1.5 million. 1,800 pounds of marijuana were discovered in a shipping container at the Port of Long Beach. The drugs were concealed in a shipment of 200 concrete lawn ornaments and were en route to a false address in Fontana when they were seized by federal agents. The container was believed to have originated in Mexico.

ICE officials acted on a tip and discovered that the 100-lb donkey statues contained drugs stored in a hollow center. The Los Angeles Border Enforcement Security Task Force was notified, and the shipment was then tracked to two different locations in Fontana and Sun Valley, where the recipients were arrested. Fourteen of the fifteen people arrested were held on immigration violations and the fifteenth suspect was detained on a previously issued criminal warrant.
