Former NFL Kicker To Stand Trial For Rape

A judge in the Pomona Superior Court ruled late last week that former Los Angeles Rams kicker Tony Zendejas will stand trial on two counts of rape and two counts of sodomy. The ruling came after the victim testified that she had gone to the Zendejas Mexican Restaurant to meet friends. According to the victim, she was served two mixed drinks by Zendejas personally. She contends that the drinks contained an unknown drug that put her in a “zombie-like state.”

The victim cited three brief memories of the evening that included being in the passenger seat of an unknown vehicle, being in a hotel lobby and seeing Zendejas in a hotel room. The woman testified that she woke up alone and naked, with her clothing scattered about the room.

She took herself to the emergency room to be examined. The examiner also testified at the hearing, saying that the victim suffered internal injuries consistent with rape and sodomy. As part of the investigation, the victim returned to the restaurant with two female undercover Sheriff’s detectives who recorded exchanges between the victim and Zendejas, who allegedly admitted that he knocked the woman out and assaulted her.
