A group of mostly peaceful protesters were gathered in the downtown Oakland area after the verdict in the killing of Oscar Grant by a BART police officer case. However, when police showed up and declared the group to be excessive and told them to desperse, a riot broke out.

At one point there were as many as a hundred people in the area and at least fifty of them were arrested.

Protestors were angry that the police officer was declared guilty of only involuntary manslaughter when he shot and killed Grant who was lying on his stomach in handcuffs.

The huge group of people did plenty of damage to show their anger. Breaking into businesses in the area and even spray painting on a local building the words “You can’t shoot us all”.
