Small Plane Theft A Big Problem
This past week two different men have stolen planes from small airfields, one incident ended in death. Skye E. Turner, a man in San Diego took a plane and flew with an expired student pilot’s license. He had to make two attempts to land in Los Angeles where firefighting crews were standing by to help if needed. Rumors state that the incident came after a fight with his girlfriend and was supposed to end in a suicide by crashing into the ocean.
A man in Texas stole a plane and crashed it into an office building in Austin that was affiliated with the IRS
because of a grudge he had against the internal revenue service. The incident killed one innocent person in the building and the man piloting the plane.
Authorities across the nation are now realizing that security at these small airfield’s is simply not strong enough as both of these incidences were fairly easy to execute. FBI agents are also trying to determine if the theft of the plane by Turner should be considered a federal crime.
